EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique): Overcome Emotional Barriers and Nourish your Mind and Spirit
*Pre-register for this in-office seminar on Saturday February 16, 2008
It is impossible to separate the physical, chemical and emotional (spiritual) health. What I do know and continue to witness all the time, is that by improving someone’s physical and chemical health, their emotional health also improves. By following a plan of adjustments, physical therapy and dietary/supplement recommendations, our patients have been able to achieve their health goals with great success.
For most, if not all of us, emotional barriers to healing often sabatoge our efforts to reach our goals (health and otherwise). For this reason and to better serve my patients, I have been doing research into EFT. I have seen the dramatic changes in patients I treat who have already discovered, learned and practice this technique. There have been numerous instances where I have discussed with a patient the foods they need to avoid in order to reach their goal and got a response like “that means no more soda, cookies, bagels, or fast food. I can’t do that.” That type of thinking is an emotional barrier that is controlling them. It is not a lack of willpower, but a pattern they have learned to address their addictions and emotional challenges. This emotional patterning can start in childhood as our society rewards children with junk food and fast food. This pattern then remains into adulthood. There are other common emotional blocks such as abuse, low self-esteem, chronic high stress, depression, anxiety, self medicating with food, drugs or alcohol, and dysfunctional childhood that lead to self-defeating behaviors.
EFT is based on the premise that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. For example, when a person experiences an emotional trauma, the intense emotion causes a short circuit somewhere in the electrical system of the body. EFT is easy to learn and involves tapping on energy points ( acupuncture points) and repeating affirmations. Doing this technique will then heal the negative emotions that are blocking that particular energy channel and create feelings of peace, relaxation, and elimination of pain etc.
If you find yourself confronting cravings, addictions, depression, self-image issues or other barriers to implementing a healthy diet and lifestyle, don’t let these barriers hold you back. We hope to see you there!
*While it is easy to learn, EFT can’t be easily learned by reading about it. We are therefore offering an in-office hands on seminar to learn this technique on Saturday February 16, 2008 from 10:30AM-12:00PM. Patricia Lawn, CSW, CH and trained EFT therapist will be leading the seminar.
